Internships
It has been recognized that one of the main contributing factors to the shortage of specialized skills in South Africa is the absence of programmes that provide opportunities for young people to develop these skills in the workplace environment. The Mvula Trust is therefore addressing this challenge through developing an internship programme in order to assist in preparing students to be effective in the job market. The programme aims to enhance students’ ability to link their theoretical learning to the real world of business.
REQUIREMENTS \CRITERIA OF THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
Internship programmes shall be offered according to the following criteria:
The interns should be:
- South African citizens
- Registered with a recognized tertiary institution studying towards a technical or professional qualification or
- Registered with a professional board \body in respect of an internship programme.
- Preference will be granted to interns who are registered with historically disadvantaged institution.
Interns training shall take place for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum period of 12 months or depending on the requirements of the specific qualification that is being pursued.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
In view of the fact that successful interns will be rendering a service to the Trust, they shall be therefore be treated as employees. The Labour Relations Act, No 66 of 1995, as well as other relevant labour legislation and policies, including The Mvula Trust’s policies, shall govern their training at Mvula.
